Sapa take-home food works when it survives 8–12 hours on a bus: dried smoked meat, cardamom, forest spices, mountain tea, sealed corn or wild-apple wine, honey from a trusted jar. Fresh hotpot, live sturgeon, wet mushrooms and leafy greens do not. Eat those at Binh Minh / Vua Bep, 02 Pham Xuan Huan, then shop the next morning — not at the station.
Vacuum-seal meat if you can. Keep bottles upright in clothes. Skip no-name “mix bags”. Compare two or three market stalls; smell spices; walk away from forced combos. Reception can hold dry bags overnight after check-in. Airline liquid rules still apply to wine and honey.
